British government tries to assure UK Supreme Court it’s safe to send asylum-seekers to Rwanda LONDON (AP) — A lawyer sought to assure the U.K. Supreme Court on Monday that the British government had adequately analyzed the risks of sending asylum-seekers to Rwanda and would have people “on the ground” to make sure it’s safe and that deportees’ rights are protected.Attorney James Eadie said that the controversial policy was in the public interest of deterring immigrants from risking their lives crossing the English Channel in small boats and to stop smugglers from exploiting them. Old and new friends jumped up and down, reveling the swirl of the bass-heavy beats.Maya Alper was standing toward the back of the bar with teams of environmentally conscious volunteers, picking up trash and passing out free vodka shots to party-goers who reused their cups. Just after 6.a.m., as a light-blue dawn broke and the headliner D.J. took the stage, air raid sirens cut through the ethereal trap music. Rockets streaked overhead.Alper, 25, jumped into her car and raced to the main road. But at the intersection she encountered crowds of stricken festival attendees, shouting at drivers to turn around. Then, a noise. Firecrackers? Panicked men and women staggering down the road just in front of her fell to the ground in pools of blood. One of Colorado’s coolest opening-day ski traditions has nothing to do with skiing

One of Colorado’s coolest opening-day ski traditions has nothing to do with skiing Arapahoe Basin is usually the first Colorado ski area to open for the season, and when the big day arrives, there’s always a long lift line with a party vibe and plenty of wacky costumes. It isn’t the only long line filled with antsy skiers and snowboarders, though. For some A-Basin regulars, their top priority isn’t getting a seat on one of the first chairs up the mountain. It’s snagging a coveted mug, which will hang from the ceiling of the 6th Alley Bar & Grill in the base lodge for the duration of the season. It’s no easy task getting into the Mug Club. Only 473 mugs are sold each year, the limiting factor being the number of hooks in the ceiling above the horseshoe-shaped bar. There have been times when the line to buy mugs seemed longer than the lift line.“You need to get there early if you want one, that’s for sure,” said longtime chief operating officer Alan Henceroth.Henceroth can’t recall when the Mug Club started, but...
